I just wasn’t satisfied with what I’d learned about calling, so I committed to discovering a way to live a called life that was both biblical and practical.

The Essence of Calling: Three Strands of Your Story
Live Called views calling as three strands of an epic story, woven together and moving from the universal to the specific to the daily.
1. Primary Calling (God’s Story): To Become Fully Human
The universal calling every person shares
God's design: Every human is called to reflect God's image and live as He intended—to become fully human in Christ
Restoration focus: Jesus came to restore our humanity, making us who we were always meant to be
Universal invitation: This calling applies to everyone, regardless of their specific gifts, context, or life situation
Foundation: Your Primary Calling is the bedrock—you can't skip to Personal Calling without embracing what it means to be fully human in God's story
2. Personal Calling (Your Character Arc): Fully Human In My Unique Way
How you specifically live out your Primary Calling
Individual expression: Your Personal Calling is how YOUR unique design, gifts, personality, and story express the universal call to be fully human
God's craftsmanship: "For we are his workmanship" (Ephesians 2:10)—God intentionally created you with specific characteristics for your unique role
Distinctive contribution: No one else can live out the Primary Calling exactly the way you do—your Personal Calling is unrepeatable
Development over discovery: Your Personal Calling isn't hidden; it develops as you grow in partnership with God through your story
3. Promptings (Intuition): Everyday Living of My Calling
The daily, specific ways you respond to God's guidance
Moment-by-moment partnership: Promptings are how you live out your Personal Calling in specific situations, relationships, and opportunities
Divine invitation: God continually invites you into faithful action that aligns with both your Primary and Personal Calling
Practical application: This is where calling becomes real—in conversations, decisions, and actions throughout your everyday life
Discernment opportunity: Each prompting is a chance to practice hearing God's voice and responding in faith
How They Work Together: Your Primary Calling gives you identity and purpose as a human made in God's image. Your Personal Calling expresses that universal calling through your unique design and role in God's story. Your Promptings are the specific, daily ways you live out your Personal Calling in partnership with God. All three are woven together—you can't separate them without losing the fullness of what calling means.

"Who has God created me to be in His story, and how do I develop more fully into that character through partnership with Him?"

The Five Vital Threads of Calling Development
How you actively develop your calling in partnership with God
These five vital threads are the ongoing practices that strengthen your calling development and deepen your partnership with the Author. Calling development is strengthening the vital threads of your story. Together they help you live authentically in your unique role within God's epic narrative.
1. Personal Connection to the Caller
Deepening your relationship with God as the foundation of everything
Growing intimacy with God through prayer, Scripture, and worship—knowing the Author personally, not just His script
Developing trust that emerges from consistent partnership experience across story seasons
Maturing in hearing God's voice through all five HEARS channels as your relationship deepen
Key Question: "How is my personal relationship with God growing, and how does that shape my understanding of my calling in His story?"
2. Creative Contribution to the Caller's Script
Using your unique gifts and creativity to advance God's restoration story
Discovering and developing your spiritual gifts as expressions of your calling
Bringing your authentic creativity to your role in God's narrative—you're not just following lines, you're co-creating within His story
Maturing in effectiveness as you learn to partner with God in meaningful kingdom work
Key Question: "How am I uniquely contributing to God's restoration story, and how is that contribution developing through our partnership?"
3. Courageous Commitment to the Caller's Story
Taking bold steps of faith as you follow God's direction in His epic
Growing in courage to step into uncomfortable or challenging calling moments
Developing perseverance through difficulties and setbacks in your story arc
Maturing in faithfulness even when the script doesn't make sense or the scene feels hard
Key Question: "Where is God inviting me to courageous action in His story, and how am I developing greater boldness through our partnership?"
4. Authentic Congruence Between Self and Role
Aligning who God created you to be with what He's calling you to do
Growing self-awareness about your design, personality, and authentic wiring as a character
Developing integrity between your inner character and outer actions in the story
Maturing in authenticity so your calling flows naturally from who you truly are in Christ
Key Question: "How aligned am I between who God made me to be and what He's calling me to do, and how is that congruence developing?"
5. Intentional Cultivation of Your Character's Development
Actively growing in the person God is calling you to become
Pursuing spiritual formation and character development as central to calling
Developing disciplines that shape you into your authentic calling identity
Maturing through reflection and learning from each story season's experiences
Key Question: "What practices and disciplines am I cultivating to become the person my calling requires, and how is my character developing through partnership with God?"
Integration of the Vital Threads: These five threads don't operate independently—they weave together in your calling development journey. As your Personal Connection deepens, your Creative Contribution becomes more authentic. As you demonstrate Courageous Commitment, your Authentic Congruence strengthens. As you practice Intentional Cultivation, all other threads grow stronger. Together, they form a helpful pathway for developing your calling in partnership with God.
