Major & Career Coaching

Choosing a major can feel like signing a contract for the rest of your life. It isn't. Your major is one scene in a much bigger story God is telling, and your career will be a series of chapters, not a single plot point. Major and career coaching helps college students approach these decisions with curiosity and freedom. The question shifts from "What should I do with my life?" to "Who is God creating me to be in this season, and how can I play my part well?"

The process is practical: majors, internships, résumés, and job searches. But it starts with how you're wired and whose story you're part of, so your path grows out of calling rather than anxiety or other people's expectations.

What major and career coaching does for you

  • Starts with how you're made: Through the Highlands Ability Battery (HAB), we identify your natural abilities, the ways you learn, solve problems, and work best. Combined with your interests, values, and experiences, this gives you a clearer picture of where you're likely to thrive and find energy.

  • Discerns wisely, not alone: We use the HEARS approach: Holy Scripture, Experiences, Allies, Reflection & Imagination, and Study & Research. Big decisions are made with prayer, good counsel, and real information, not guesswork or pressure.

  • Clarifies your major (or confirms it): Whether you're undecided, second-guessing your current path, or just want to know you're on the right track, we explore options that fit your abilities and interests. We also look realistically at where those majors lead.

  • Connects your studies to real-world work: We explore career fields, roles, and work environments that match your design. Majors and careers don't always line up one-to-one, and that's often good news.

  • Builds experience with purpose: You'll get strategies for internships, research, part-time work, volunteering, and campus involvement that help you test your direction and grow your skills.

  • Helps you tell your story honestly: Résumé, LinkedIn, cover letter, and interview coaching help you present who you really are and what you bring, without inflating or underselling it.

  • Supports the next step: We weigh job offers, graduate school, gap years, and other paths with an eye on fit, stewardship, and growth. And here's the freeing part: no single decision locks you in. Your calling keeps unfolding across a lifetime, and there's no arrival point, only faithful next steps.

Who benefits most

  • First- and second-year students who are undecided or unsure their current major fits.

  • Upperclassmen preparing to move from campus into work or further study.

Typical coaching components

  • Discovery session: We cover your academic path, experiences, interests, values, and questions, and begin exploring where your story seems to be heading.

  • HAB assessment and debrief: A detailed look at your natural abilities and what they suggest about fitting majors, roles, and work environments.

  • Major and career exploration: Focused research on fields and paths that match your design, including concrete ways to test them.

  • Career readiness coaching: Résumé, LinkedIn, cover letters, networking, and mock interviews.

  • Ongoing support: Check-ins, strategy adjustments, and decision guidance as opportunities come up.

Major and career coaching continues the journey begun in Called to College, helping students grow into who God is creating them to be, one faithful step at a time.
